CABA - Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA)

Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA) is a not-for-profit industry association dedicated to the advancement of intelligent building technologies in North America.

The organization is supported by an international membership of nearly 400 companies involved in the design, manufacture, installation and retailing of products relating to building automation systems.

CABA's mandate includes providing its members with networking and market research opportunities. CABA also encourages the development of industry standards and protocols, and leads cross-industry initiatives.

The organization was originally founded in 1988 as the Canadian Automated Buildings Association.


Cable

Multiple wires arranged in a common covering of insulating plastic or other materials, used as an electrical conductor.


Can Ahead

The enclosure or back-box is shipped in advance of the interior for "rough in"


Candlea (cd)

The unit of measurement of luminous intensity of a light source in a given direction.


Candlepower

Luminous intensity of a particular light source expressed in candlea.

Canopy

Fixture part that covers an outlet box.

Cans

Another term for recessed downlights.

Ceiling Fixtures

Provide general lighting. They are practical in busy areas such as foyers, hallways, bedrooms, kitchens, baths, laundry rooms and dens. They are available with incandescent, fluorescent and energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.


cfm

Acronym standing for Cubic Feet per Minute.

Channel

In dimming controls, a group of fixtures that are operated together, generally of the same type or for the same function.

A fixture or group of fixtures controlled simultaneously as a single entity.


Circuit

Wiring path for electricity, including conductors, load and circuit protection.

Circuit Breaker

Resettable safety device to prevent current flow or prevent excess current flow.

Color Temperature

The appearance of white light in terms of warmth or coolness.

Compact Downlight

Small recessed incandescent fixtures generally five inches deep.

Compact Fluorescent

A small fluorescent lamp that is often used as an alternative to incandescent lighting. The lamp life is about ten times longer than incandescent lamps and is 3 to 4 times brighter. Also referred to as PLI DL, CFL or BIAX lamps.

Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a leader in safety standards testings.
